It is with great pleasure that the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka together with the co-organizers announce their international conference on “Advances in agronomy, technology, value creation, processing and marketing of tea (AITea 2017)”. This event marks the sesquicentennial jubilee of tea industry in Sri Lanka. At this moment, as we prepare to celebrate 150 years, let’s sojourn to evaluate the current status of tea and its future. Key stakeholders of Sri Lanka have organized an array of event to mark the year. All these exciting events will also take place at BMICH, Colombo from 9 – 15 August 2017.

These activities include a tea convention and an exhibition. Be prepared to meet all that love tea and are involved in science and business in tea. Tea, wherever it was introduced, changed the economy, culture, human migration, agriculture as well as the environment. Hence, this is the opportunity to share current advances and stories that matter with regard to tea. This international conference will be a follow up from tea conferences held in China in 2013 and South Korea in 2014. The conference organizing committee would appreciate if you could make the academic staff members and research scholars of your faculty, department and institution aware about this international conference. Do encourage them to contribute towards the conference by submitting and presenting quality research findings, reviews of the sector, summaries of institutional and long term project activities, publications and success stories that can inspire and can potentially change the future of tea.

As all aspects of tea is covered by this conference, any researcher, organisation or any interested individuals can submit their write ups. Each write up can extend to 1500 words. We encourage researchers and research groups to synthesise outcomes and major findings of your published work with due references to indicate the new directions and advances.The organizers are interested to publish original research as well as such articles as the proceeding book will showcase the advances in tea during last 5 years.

We sincerely hope that this conference would be an ideal forum for academics, researchers and all the other stakeholders to meet discuss and exchange views on the issues pertaining to the desired theme/s in an intellectually stimulating environment. So we earnestly request you to give due publicity to our conference and to encourage your colleagues to take part in this conference and disseminate knowledge and skills gained through their research and experience.

All write ups should be uploaded through the portal. An appointed panel of expertise will peer review the submissions. The selected write ups will form a part of the “Tea book of 2017” which will be launched at the conference.
